I quit during a recession

Indeed, I quit my job last month (June 2009). While I had a healthy relationship with my team at Zed USA, my relationship with the company wasn’t what it used to be. I was a bit burned out with the direct-to-consumer (D2C) ringtone space; it’s very unforgiving. After you pay the major record labels and wireless companies, there’s very little margin left to build a viable business.
Statistics say the management team at Zed USA will continue to swim upstream. I truly believe they will find success in the D2C mobile space at some point. My gut sense is they need to move away from licensing those large major label content catalogs. If they were to launch a paradigm shifting app that wasn’t centered around ringtones but still implemented PSMS e.g. reverse auctions, interactive television voting, sweepstakes etc. they might change the game - someone’s going to do it soon.
This Summer I’m going to assess opportunities in the digital download/new music industry space. For I am a lifer you see. Of course I will be spending more time writing and gigging with the band Dualistics. In fact we hit the studio two weeks ago. I’ll close this post with a song we wrote and recorded about a girl I knew who had a fairly unhealthy employee/employer relationship. What do you think?

Congratulations Charley! I wish you all the best, but I know you don’t need it. There is ample opportunity out there for talented folks such as yourself.
